Sammy Miller & the Congregation at The Woods, Brooklyn. February 2017. Emily Flahive.
You need to get off campus for a few hours.
I know: it’s Conference Month™. But you need to leave your dorm room and the library, and clear your head to fight off writer’s block, burn-out, and just straight-up insanity.
Here are ways to blow off steam that are much healthier (and cheaper) than chain-smoking outside the lib (followed by a trick to saving on transportation costs):
Tues. Dec 5th | Joyful Jazz Theatre (& Cute Boys)
Tip #1: Don’t panic when one of the band members pretends to die from jamming so hard. Though it may feel like it, your heart is not failing. It’s growing.
Tip #2: Dance. They love when people join them onstage.
Tip #3: Go up to them afterwards and tell them how much you enjoyed yourself. They’re super sweet!
Trivia: Sam Graff (SLC ’14) is filming a documentary on SM & C!
Tues. Dec 5th | Illusions are, like, subjective, man. Right? No?
Sat. Dec 9th | “That’s hot.” –Dame Paris Hilton
Thru Dec 16th | For the Insta.
Friday nights | MoMA Mia!
Working the System
Depending on how much extra time you have, your stop’s location, and how comfortable you feel walking in Wakefield. I haven’t had any problems yet, but be careful!
♦ Taking a local Bronxville/Fleetwood train to Wakefield: $3 (or $0, since it’s only 7-minute ride).
♦ Walking 0.3 miles to Wakefield – 241st St MTA station: $0.
♦ Taking the 2 to Manhattan: $2.75.
♦ Listening to preachers shout that you’re going to hell—and realizing that you’re pickin’ up what they’re puttin’ down!: Priceless.
